Richard is a highly professional and seasoned insurance executive with almost three decades of industry experience. After years of working to protect large construction firms, he became president of A.L. Howes in 2015. His goal was to bring his many years of insurance industry experience to bear for businesses of all sizes. He felt that all organizations, regardless of size, should have the same access to insurance expertise and experience. He wanted any interested firm or individual to be able to get the best coverage at the right price. Richard shows a great deal of care to his clients. He takes the time to explain to his customers where their vulnerable places are, and how they can protect themselves. In addition to his work, he is a strong believer in community. He serves as a Trustee for the Boys Latin School, his alma mater, and he is a member of the Sykesville South Carroll Rotary Club.
Boyd is an experienced insurance executive with almost four decades in the field. After graduating from Washington & Lee University he started his insurance career as a management trainee and quickly moved up to supervisory positions in Operations and Claims departments. A few years later he transitioned to the agency side and he is now a veteran with 27 years’ experience in the industry. Boyd joined Insurance Partners in 2008, in order to service construction clients. He helps them select the best programs to protect their interests. At the same time he helps them keep their costs under control. Boyd’s specialties include workers compensation insurance and surety programs that secure bonding for construction projects. Boyd is a member of the board of directors of the Anne Arundel County Student Construction Trades Foundation. He resides in Columbia, Maryland where he lives with his wife, Mary Pat.
For the first 15 years of Dana Heatwole’s career in the insurance industry he was an underwriter and underwriting manager with large, national companies. In 2002 he moved to the broker side of the business where the deep technical insurance knowledge he gained as an underwriter could benefit clients. Dana knows a great deal about exposure analysis, risk assessment, coverage analysis, contract review, and negotiation with underwriters. That command of products and prices allows him to provide the most comprehensive and competitive insurance programs available in the marketplace. Before entering the insurance industry Dana spent time as a member of the armed forces. He graduated from Towson University, worked as a math teacher and coached young athletes. Dana has strong professional relationships including with underwriters, vendors, coworkers and, especially, clients.
Barb Myer is a longtime insurance professional who has worked her way up the ladder learning every facet of the profession from the ground up. She joined A. L. Howes in 1989. Her first job at the agency was managing the front desk, but her talent and work ethic had her quickly moving on to gain education and experience within the industry. Barb now specializes in personal lines and has a property and casualty license. She understands each client’s individual needs and advises them on appropriate coverage options, with policy terms and conditions tailored to meet their goals. Her expertise on personal line products ensures that her clients are protected from potential losses. Barb and her husband, Bob, reside in Carroll County, close to their two sons and four grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family, being active in her church, and traveling.
Kelli has more than 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry. She has devoted her career to personal lines of insurance. She has a passion for protecting her clients from potential personal losses. She tirelessly advises each one of her clients on the best limits and proper deductibles given their situation, and coverage options that will meet their needs. Kelli and her husband, Phil, are long-time residents of Carroll County.
Jackie has dedicated more than 20 years of her life to the insurance industry. She takes care of commercial-line customers and takes great pride in navigating the nitty-gritty of their policies so that they can concentrate on their core business interests. Jackie utilizes her insurance skills to help customers attain the broadest coverage at the lowest possible cost. She achieves this by tirelessly reviewing policies and coverage options, renewing pricing negotiations and endorsements, and issuing certificates. She and her husband Michael reside in New Windsor, Maryland, with their 12-year old son.
Carolyn holds a special place at the A. L. Howes Agency. She was the firm’s very first full-time employee. Carolyn is a life-long resident of Carroll County with a passion for the community. When a client calls A.L. Howes, Carolyn is most likely the first person with whom they speak. Carolyn ensures that each client receives the very best service possible, carefully looking over coverage terms and conditions, billing inquiries and policy changes so she can advise clients about their best interests. Carolyn enjoys the fresh air of the outdoors and loves exploring cities by foot. She is creative in the kitchen and an avid equestrian.
Tammy is a newcomer to the A. L. Howes Insurance Agency. She joined the team in 2016. Nevertheless she has a great deal of experience. Tammy has been a licensed insurance agent since 2009 and brings excellent customer service skills. She strives to know the ins and outs of each situation so that she can offer her clients advice that improves their situation. She also strongly believes in the importance of educating her clients so that every decision they make is intelligent and well-founded. In her personal time Tammy enjoys hiking, baseball, and spending time with her three children and two dogs.
